The Outer Gates is the tutorial floor: two character entries, one easy boss, cheap chips, and a quest line that teaches elemental weaknesses. The Heavenly Courtyard is the endgame: curse hazards, gear-check enemies and the Floor 2 Guardian, the hardest fight in the game. The Outer Gates takes a new player two to three hours to clear; the Courtyard is balanced around players who finished the Floor 1 chip upgrades — attempting it early is possible but miserable.

The Outer Gates: The Classroom
Every system in Kernel Hearts is introduced here one at a time: ranged combat against the angel swarm, pull-and-punish against the angel patrols, preparation gates against the Floor 1 Guardian. Enemies telegraph loudly and reward you with generous fragment income. Nothing here requires grinding — quest rewards alone fund the chip upgrades the next floor assumes.
The Heavenly Courtyard: The Exam
The Heavenly Courtyard removes the training wheels. Angels heal on curse floors and punish melee positioning, materials for the endgame chip set are guarded by hazard routes, and the Floor 2 Guardian is a five-minute, two-phase fight that checks your chips, your healing items and your patience at once. Clearing it awards the Divine Seal — the trophy that currently defines 100% completion.
