Equip the Basic Attack Chip the moment you get it (tutorial reward) and use it until you can craft the Upgraded Attack Chip in the Courtyard. There is no third tier, no side-grade, no reason to wait — the Basic pays for itself in faster clears within your first hour.

Basic Attack Chip: How to Maximize It
The Basic Attack Chip is free but not weak. Pair it with an Ice coating for Floor 1 enemies and you will clear patrols quickly. The upgraded version is worth the Courtyard Materials cost, but do not rush — farm Floor 1 thoroughly before moving up.
Upgraded Attack Chip: The Courtyard Gate
The Upgraded needs 12 Courtyard Materials, collected along the curse-floor hazard routes. Each route is guarded by angels that heal on curse floors — clear them onto safe ground first, then collect. The material cost is the real price; the KB budget is trivial by then.
